Glass artist Adrianne Evans’
work relates to the layers of the earth’s surface—the
ocean, the geology and the atmosphere surrounding it. The
versatility of glass enables her exploration in the relationships
between the natural world and the human world. Through casting
and fusing she creates a variety of characteristics in her
pieces ranging from opaque, translucent or transparent,
rough or smooth, colored or clear. In addition to her glass
work, Evans will be showing pieces made of tree leaves that
further reflect her interest in the natural world.
Evans received a Masters
of Fine Arts in Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design
and a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Glass and Metal from the
New York State College of Ceramics in Alfred, New York.
She has been a member of the Glass Department faculty at
RISD for the past seven years. Most recently, Evans has
exhibited her work at the Hawk Galleries in Columbus, OH
in a show entitled ‘Les Dames de Verre: Women of Glass.’
She has also shown her work at the Habitat Gallery in Boca
Raton, Florida, the Providence Art Club and the Museum of
American Glass at Wheaton Village in Millville, New Jersey.

Painter David
Frazer will be exhibiting a new body of work
consisting of small and large oil paintings on canvas and
on paper. His paintings give the appearance of mixed media
with techniques of collage and printmaking but do not use
any of these techniques. Through painting, Frazer wishes
to explore and exploit the tradition of Abstract Expressionism
but in a new and contradictory way. By controlling accident
and combining historical idioms into heterogeneous imagery
and expression, he creates paintings that visually are intentionally
misleading.
Frazer received a Master of Arts in Painting
from the University of New Mexico and a Bachelors of Fine
Arts in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design.
Currently a professor in the Painting Department at RISD,
he has also been a visiting artist and lecturer at many
colleges and universities around the world including both
Chung-ang University and Chungnam University in South Korea,
Brookhaven College in Dallas, Texas, Temple University in
Rome and Parsons School of Design in New York. Frazer’s
paintings have been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout
Rhode Island and Massachusetts including the Chazan Gallery
at Wheeler, the Virginia Lynch Gallery and the RISD Museum.
Most recently, his work has been presented in solo exhibitions
at the Fisher Press in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Forum Gallery
in Dallas, Texas.
